Lately I got in contact with some musicians or bands I never heard of before. Sadly, Raphael Saadiq is one of them. I heard the song “Oh Girl” (feat. Jay-Z) before, but never got in touch some more with the artist.
I am a huge fan of Soul/NothernSoul/Swing/R&B and it makes me happy to see there are brilliant artists like Raphael Saadiq who won’t let this great music become extinct. But he combinates this great style also with HipHop (like Jay-Z) or Jazz (Joss Stone), which is a great way to do.
Amazing beat, great voices, and when I hear stuff like that (or the earlier things of Michael Jackson) I think I can always hear their passion and love for music.
“Raphael Saadiq is a standard bearer for what folks call ‘old school’ music, a contemporary artist continuing a time-honored tradition that goes back to the ‘60s and ‘70s. From his early days as a member of the groundbreaking ‘80s group Tony! Toni! Toné! through his work as an award-winning producer of such artists as Joss Stone, The Roots, Snoop Dogg, John Legend among many others and his own solo albums, the multi-talented Raphael Saadiq has kept the faith. “Every record I’ve ever made has had those influences…The Temptations, Al Green, The Four Tops and so on,” Raphael explains from the L.A. studio where he recorded his latest illustrious work.” (via raphaelsaadiq.com)
