上海

In exactly two weeks, 14 days, or 336 hours – I will be on the way to China. 上海 is according to GoogleTranslate and Wikipedia the original Chinese sign for Shanghai, a city of 19,210,000 people. It is almost the other side of the world, and definitely a complete different world when it comes to culture, language, appearance and attitude. I am really excited! And so thankful that Mercedes invited me.
The reason is a Pangaea, a project of the South-African explorer Mike Horn. Mercedes sponsors this project and invited people to see what this project is about. And to take a trip with the boat Pangaea through Shanghai’s port.
As you may know the EXPO is currently in Shanghai and one of the pavillons is the Urban Pavillon with the topic sustainability and human development. It is the other reason why Mercedes invited, the trip is about the future of urban mobility. And since I am planning a conference about urbanity next February with a few some fellows, I could get a great insight about trends and visions of future mobility.
I am really excited about the trip. My first trip to Asia. And after I read about bornintents’ solution tour I and II, I can hardly wait to see what the city is like!

Enjoy! Shanghai is fantastic. Eat lots of xiaolongbao. There’s the biennale going on at the end of the month and a moleskin exhibition opening. If u make it to Beijing, happy to offer tips.

@Jeriko Wow, you’ve been there already? I am looking forward to it. Not much time to wander around and explore the city, but definitely a trip to get a first glimpse into a different world!

@Baobabs Oh thanks, it is a press journey. So, I won’t make it to Beijing. But I will try to catch some xianlongbao, don’t have a clue what it is, but sounds…interesting! I hope I have the time to stop by at the Moleskine exhibition, thanks for the hint!

Been there, seen that! Shanghai is indeed a great city! Spent there half a year. If you see some tiny “restaurants” with these pictures on the wall:

Eat it! It is fantastic food for a unbelievable low price!

@Christof Oh, a friend of mine also spent a half year in Shanghai. The restaurants are already chosen, but I will try to find some streetfood.
