QUOTE.fm opened as closed beta
The day has come when QUOTE.fm started. At least to some chosen few it is in closed beta since last night. Within the next days a few more people will join and will help Marcel, Martin and Philipp to optimize QUOTE.fm, eradicate bugs, and make it even better than it is already!
If you still ask yourself what QUOTE.fm is, here is the official explanation:
“QUOTE.fm makes it possible for you to take text that you have found on the internet and share it with your friends. You quote your favorite piece of the text, comment on it, and pass it on as recommendations to your friends. While sharing your recommendations, you also receive recommendations from your friends; keeping fresh, relevant, reading material right at your fingertips.” (via QUOTE.fm)
Above you can see how a quote looks like. Basically what you do is: when you read an online text or article and you think it is worth sharing with others, and you would like to recommend it, you chose a certain part of the text, highlight it with your cursor, press the bookmark plugin and a little pop-up ables you to comment and “quote” the text. The quote will now be published in your stream. A stream is basically a news stream like you know it from facebook or twitter. But this time the stream is just filled with reading recommendations: your recommendations, the ones of the people you follow, popular and all recommendations. The good thing is, via connections to facebook and twitter, you are also able to send your recommendations to these platforms. You can also save it in your delicious bookmarks or instapaper. Within a comment to the quote, you can add hashtags and @-replies, in order to expose the topic and to address certain recommendations to certain people.
To be honest those three guys did an amazing job. And there is a lot more about to come. I talked to Marcel W-ichmann and his visions are incredible. And with Martin W-olf and Philipp W-aldhauer he has exactly the right team to really achieve something with QUOTE.fm. The most important thing is that W-W-W created something that fulfills needs and shows you once more that there are still networks or tools which can improve the web. AND QUOTE.fm looks nice, feels nice, and performs nice. I am looking forward to quote and read your quotes! (By the way, please don’t ask me for invites!)
